I've always had trouble keeping the horizontal fin clamp from moving. With some not so easy landings, the clamp has a tendency to slide back slightly. This makes the boom start to angle downward out of the frames boom clamp. Pinning it with a screw through the clamp into the boom only made the hole in the boom bigger after awhile. I marked where the clamp should go, sanded the boom slightly to roughen the surface, masked off both sides, and mixed a concoction of epoxy and fine sand. Then I rolled the masked area in it and wiped off what I thought left enough.
After letting it cure for awhile, I moved the clamp into position. It looks a bit on the ugly side... the horizontal fin will hide it.
Here you can see with the clamp tight, there's still space left to make it tighter. The sandy texture of the boom grips the clamp... this isn't going to budge. I also did this to the area where the vertical fin clamps, and to the area where the boom goes into the frames. I didn't use any sand on the front though, just a little bit of epoxy to increase the boom diameter slightly.
Here the fin covers up the surgery. Once the machine gets covered with oil you won't even notice it.

Note: Since I didn't have any *fine sand* here in Brooklyn, what I did have was cement... the fine sand I used was actually motar mix.... can I call my XL a brick now?
